Since its foundation in 1998, KCRC has made efforts to foster national consensus on unification issues as well as encouraged public participation in the unification movement. It has also played the role of locomotive for inter- Korean reconciliation and cooperation, promoting exchanges between the South and the North Korean people since the June 15 Joint Declaration.
Organization
- KCRC was founded on September 3, 1998 to facilitate national unification.
Characteristics
- As a Council for promoting unification movement, KCRC consists of approximately 200 political parties∙religious organizations∙and civic societies.
- KCRC is a window for reconciliation and communication among all people longing for unification.
- KCRC upholds the Basic Agreement of 1991 and the June 15 Joint Declaration agreed between the two leaders of South and North Korea in 2000. Based on this spirit, it makes efforts to open an era of unification.

Roles
- Strengthening Civilian Capacity for Unification To achieve Unification, not only is the government role important, but the role of civilians is also important. KCRC tries to encourage active Unification Movement by civilians.
- Fostering National Consensus on Unification Issues For promoting National Reconciliation, not only is inter- Korean Dialogue necessary, but also Dialogue and Reconciliation within the South is important.
- Stimulating inter-Korean Social & Cultural Exchanges To realize inter-Korean Reconciliation, there need to be Mutual Understanding and trust through Continuous Meetings.
